For many people their first view of Berwick-upon-Tweed is when they have been passing through the town by train. That unforgettable sight as the train slows down and crosses very slowly over the magnificent Royal Border Bridge. (The bridge, incidentally, was used as the backdrop for the James Bond movie “Skyfall”). The enchanting sight simply captures your heart. The old harbour wall, the stunning assortment of Georgian, multi-coloured houses, the lovely lighthouse and pier, the ancient, pink sandstone bridge and of course the beautiful sandy beach (at Spittal Point). You decide there and then, one day you will visit….
